THE DEVELOPMENT OF ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture has a clearly recorded history of around 2000 years, originating from Asia, although some authorities insist it began over 4000 years ago. The development of Acupuncture has changed and grown over the years in China, however the first medical account involving its practical application in regard to pathology of the human body dates back to 300BC and is known as the Nei Jing (The Yellow Emperors Classic Of Internal Medicine). This text discusses the Taoist principles of the Five Elements, Yin and Yang and the Meridian System that form the basis of Acupuncture treatment today.

Today, in many parts of China, Western and Eastern Medicine are practiced alongside each other however in Britain the practice of Acupuncture is still a growing form of Medicine that has been around since the 1950s. Over the years it has developed and grown in demand and has gradually become recognised by other health professions and conventional medical practitioners. Acupuncture is still the oldest known practice of medicine still being used today!
